Meet The StaffPlaza Resort BonaireInterview with Norin MartisOrganizational Dive Manager at Plaza Resort Bonaire.Question: Are from Bonaire? Norin: Yes I was born and raised on Bonaire. Question: What is your favourite part of living here? Norin: Everything, especially the relaxing atmosphere on Bonaire. It is so quiet and there are nice beaches and lots of sunshine. Though I like to travel to discover other places, I wouldn't want to live anyplace else. Question: What is your position at Plaza Resort Bonaire? Norin: I'm the Organizational Dive Manager. Question: What does your job entail? Norin: I am in charge of all the retail and administration for the dive shop. I take the reservations, answer emails, make the dive schedule and arrange the boat diving, create the staff schedule, and purchase all the products we sell for the dive shop. Question: How long have you worked at PRB? Norin: I've worked here for 14¼ years. Question: What other jobs have you had at PRB? Norin: I spent my first year in the Activity Centre. After that I was a Sales Clerk in the Dive Shop selling products, communicating with customers and giving them information. Two years ago I became Supervisor, and in November 2009 I became Manager. Question: What do you love about working at PRB? Norin: What I like about my work is the contact I have with the people, and telling them about the diving. I like talking with the people from all over the world. We get many people from the United States and Brazil, and from Holland who are all very nice. We are starting to get more people from Europe. I can communicate with all of them and I have no problem. And I like to know about their culture and how they live there. Question: Do you have a favourite sea creature? Norin: I like all the sea creatures. I like dolphins and how they jump out of water. I would like to be like them in the water. Question: When you're not working, what other things do you like to do on Bonaire? Norin: If I'm not working, I will be with my family, my husband and my two boys, aged 7 and 12 years old. We go to the beach and go swimming and windsurfing. We also like driving around the island and enjoying the beauty of our island. Question: What do you think sets Bonaire apart from other Caribbean Islands? Norin: The Reef. STINAPA (Stichting Nationale Parken Bonaire, a non-governmental, not for profit foundation that manages the island's protected areas) has protected the reef for many years and the reef is very good. As well, guests are always telling us how nice the Bonairian people are and how friendly. There are also the beaches, the sun and how relaxing the island is. When people arrive here they are able to go out on the beach and relax. |
