Corporate social responsibility
In addition to making our own resort as sustainable as possible, we are also actively involved in contributing to projects and companies in the area.
Fundashon Kunuku Kakelvers - animal rescue
Fundashion Kunuku Kakelvers is a local animal shelter that focuses on the well-being of the animals on the island. They do this by lovingly taking care of the animals, providing for them, and finding a new owner for them when possible. In collaboration with us, Fundashon Kunuku Kakelvers tries to reduce the number of stray cats and dogs by picking them up when they roam around the resort. By having the animals picked up, we ensure that they receive the care and attention they deserve.
On November 4, 2016, the Kunuku Kakelvers cat shelter was opened. Van der Valk Plaza Resort Bonaire also contributed by providing snacks and drinks to the animal shelter during the grand opening of the cat shelter, allowing everyone to take a look inside the new shelter.
STINAPA
STINAPA Bonaire is a foundation responsible for the management of Bonaire's national parks; Bonaire National Marine Park and Washington Slagbaai National Park. The mission of STINAPA is to protect and preserve the natural, cultural, and historical heritage. In addition to protecting and managing 20% of Bonaire, they also focus on educating and informing visitors and the local population of Bonaire.
Nature tag
To maintain the Bonaire National Marine Park, snorkelers, divers, and other water sports enthusiasts are required to purchase a “Nature tag”. This tag is strictly personal and valid throughout the entire calendar year. Therefore, do not forget to purchase your tag at Toucan Diving shop before entering the water. Prices:
Divers: USD $45 per person
Snorkelers: USD $25 per person
Starting January 2023, the price of the Stinapa tag will be adjusted.
The Nature tag not only provides access to Bonaire's underwater world (Bonaire National Marine Park), but also offers free access to Washington Slagbaai National Park.
Beach Clean up
Plaza also regularly participates in beach clean-ups on Bonaire, such as the beach clean-up organized by Nicolette Kluijver, presenter and IFAW ambassador. This way, the resort also contributes to keeping our beautiful beaches clean.
