Lionfish
Since the arrival of the Lionfish in the Caribbean waters, many fish in their natural habitat are threatened. Despite the beautiful looks, the fish poses a threat to the reef of Bonaire. Stinapa (Bonaire National Parks Foundation) keeps the fish population balanced by hunting the Lionfish during dive trips. The dive instructors of Toucan Diving help Stinapa by hunting the Lionfish during their dive trips.
Mosquitoes
There are many mosquitoes on the island, including the tiger mosquito, which sometimes carries annoying diseases. To minimize the nuisance of mosquitoes for you as a guest, they are controlled every two weeks. The corridors outside the rooms are treated with a so-called 'Fogger Machine'. In a few minutes, the active mosquitoes are effectively controlled using a biological pesticide.
