At a resort like Plaza Beach & Dive Resort, where guests enjoy their vacation, waste production is naturally unavoidable. As a hotel, we find it important to handle waste as well as possible. Therefore, all waste is reused or processed in a sustainable way in various departments within our company.

Restaurant

Our guests can enjoy a comprehensive all-inclusive menu in our restaurant daily. To prevent as much food waste as possible, leftovers are not thrown away but offered to various livestock farmers on the island. This way, Plaza Beach & Dive Resort Bonaire contributes to local farmers and reduces the farmers' costs.

In addition, drinks at the Palm Beach bar are served in hard, eco-friendly glasses that can be easily reused after cleaning. This prevents plastic drinking glasses from accidentally ending up in the sea or littering the beach. Together, we ensure a clean sea and a tidy beach so that everyone can fully enjoy the beautiful Bonaire.

In addition to using reusable drinkware, we make extensive use of post-mix bulk packaging to reduce the amount of soda cans and bottles.

Pure Drinking Water

Since the water shortage that arose on Bonaire around 1960, the island has been smart in extracting pure drinking water. A lot of drinking water is extracted from seawater and purified twice. As a result, the drinking water on Bonaire is extremely pure and contains a minimal amount of residual salt (5-10 mg/l). In addition, strict supervision is maintained over the quality of drinking water on Bonaire, allowing you to drink the water on the island with peace of mind.

To encourage refilling of water bottles, you will find water refill stations at various locations in our resort. The refill stations can be found at the Palm Beach bar, Tipsy Seagull Restaurant, Toucan Diving, the Activity Centre, and at the reception.

Waste Separation

At the resort, we are also actively involved in separating waste, all our waste is separated into glass, paper, and residual waste. In Bonaire, we do not have a deposit system, which is why Plaza Beach & Dive Resort Bonaire has taken the initiative to return the empty Zulia beer crates to the distributor. This way, the beer crates can be reused and we contribute to nature conservation.
