Visitor Entry Tax Bonaire: what you need to know before departure

Before departing for Bonaire, arrange the Visitor Entry Tax. With this practical explanation, you will know which rate applies, where to pay safely, and how to use the QR code upon arrival.

What is the Visitor Entry Tax?

Since 2022, visitors to Bonaire must pay a Visitor Entry Tax. This replaces the former tourist tax and car rental tax. The Visitor Entry Tax is separate from the Nature Fee for the protected nature of Bonaire.

How much does the Visitor Entry Tax cost?

The following applies to most visitors:

• Visitors aged 13 and older: $75 per person.

• Children up to 12 years: $10 per person.

Additionally, there are special rates and exemptions for qualifying residents of Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Saba, Sint Eustatius, Island children, Bonaire residents, and certain students from Bonaire. Proof is required. Always check the exact conditions with the Bonaire Public Entity.

Where and when do you pay?

Online payment can be made up to seven days before arrival with a credit card or iDEAL. After payment, you will receive a personal QR code. Store it on your phone and preferably also as a screenshot or printed backup copy.

Paying upon arrival

If online payment is not possible, choose 'Pay at Kiosk' in the form. You will then receive a QR code to pay at the self-service kiosk upon arrival. According to official information, credit card and pin/Maestro are accepted; cash payments are not possible.

Paying online in advance remains the fastest option.

How long is the QR code valid?

The paid QR code is valid for one month. Within that period, you can leave and return to Bonaire without paying the Visitor Entry Tax again. Upon return, you must prove with an ID that the QR code is in your name.

Beware of unofficial sales sites

Commercial websites sometimes offer to arrange the tax for you at an extra cost. Always check the web address. The official payment portal is tourismtax.bonairegov.com. Share your personal data only via this official portal.

Visitor Entry Tax and Nature Fee are different

The Visitor Entry Tax is the entry tax for visitors. The STINAPA Nature Fee is a separate contribution for the use of the protected nature and waters of Bonaire. Check STINAPA's current information for nature activities.
