Bonaire has played an important role in my life since childhood. As a child I came here often and by now I know the island like the back of my hand. From relaxing moments on the water to culinary surprises and magical nature: Bonaire has it all. In this blog I will take you through my five favorite experiences on the island, each one a must to make your stay unforgettable.

Enjoying the sea with Bonaire Yacht Charters

Step aboard Bonaire Yacht Charters and discover the breathtaking Caribbean Sea. Whether you want to snorkel, fish, or simply relax on the water, there is something for everyone. Dining and relaxing at Sebastian's

Within walking distance of the resort you'll find Sebastian's, an atmospheric restaurant right on the sea. Here you enjoy excellent service and high-quality dishes. My personal favorite is the octopus. And if I may give you a tip, visit Sebastian's around sunset and enjoy a romantic dinner on the pier.

Sebastian's also has a beautiful beach club at Lac Bay, known for its crystal-clear blue water. The shallow sea and refreshing breeze make this the ideal spot for a relaxed beach day. For those who like to be active, windsurfing lessons are also offered here. Plaza Resort Bonaire provides a free shuttle service to this beach club daily.

Explore the island by golf cart

Renting a car is a nice way to explore Bonaire, but for me a golf cart is the ultimate way to truly experience the island. Drive towards the famous 1000 Steps and continue your route to Goto Lake. Along the way I recommend stopping at Posada Para Mira, a hidden gem where you can enjoy a local snack and drink and a beautiful view.

On the way back a visit to the Kadushi Center is definitely worthwhile. Here you'll discover how the well-known Bonairean liqueurs are made and learn more about this special local product.

Discover the magic of Bonaire underwater

As a family we are true diving enthusiasts and we love sharing this passion with our guests. My father taught me to snorkel when I was little, but as soon as I went diving for the first time I knew I never wanted anything else. Together with my brother and sister I earned my PADI Open Water certificate at age fourteen with Chantal from Toucan Diving.

Chantal has been teaching our guests with great passion for more than eight years. She can be a bit strict sometimes and if you accidentally say "flippers" instead of "fins" you owe her a beer. And I’ll admit; I’ve had to pay for quite a few. Diving in Bonaire is truly spectacular. If you’ve never dived before, I highly recommend trying a Discover Scuba experience.

Magical nature: a journey of discovery through the mangroves

Bonaire is not only known for its beaches but also for its unique nature. On the way to the mangroves you will often encounter flamingos and donkeys. Exploring the mangrove forests is a peaceful and impressive experience that we recommend to everyone during a stay on the island.

A tip we'd like to share with you: the mangroves show their most enchanting side in the evening. The calm, the light and the sounds make this experience unforgettable. Thanks to The Mangrove Center, it is possible to experience this in a sustainable and responsible way.
